Claudia and Dave’s Wedding
October 5th, 2003
Gardens is located in Wheaton (official address Silver Spring), Maryland,
a suburb of Washington, DC.
music began at 4pm, with some very spiritually moving sounds ranging
from a 16th Century Palestrina chant to the present (Enya's music)... The groom and best man
welcomed people as they arrived.
The wedding ceremony began at 4:30pm. The ceremony was prepared and delivered by the groom's brother, Edwin - many people asked for a copy of the words - view them here.
continued after the ceremony with Bach's Brandenburg concertos in the gardens along with
light refreshments and some photography – guest photos were taken of
attendees - to be mailed our as gifts of Dave and Claudia. An informal
gathering continued in the gardens while photos were taken.
Following the gathering in the gardens, the reception was be held in the auditorium of the Visitors Center. The reception hall is a circular shaped room with tall glass windows facing the gardens. The sun was setting at 6pm when the dinner was served. Votive candles on the tables brought a warm glow across the room.
The caterers were exceptional - the meal was very well accepted and the servers seemed to know and anticipate the needs of each guest.
After the meal, Dave and Claudia stood in the center of the dance floor while guests lit hand-held candles. The room lights were dimmed, and Dave and Claudia took the microphone to exchange gratitudes for each other - the things they appreciated in that moment for each other. Then, while still in the center of the candle-lit room, they danced their first dance to "Can I Have This Dance (for the Rest of my Life)" where they waltzed sharing the joy of each other.
The second dance was brought in as a gift-surprise as Bobbi played another song on the piano - everyone joined in the Dancing.
Music, music music! Brian Crow from Crow Entertainment was the MC who hosted the music for dancing. Somehow, the dance floor was always crowded, and as each song began, you kind of had the thought that "Oh! I just really want to dance to this one!" -- there weren't any songs to "sit-out".
There was a breather though for “cake-cutting” - Individual desserts
were created by Ken’s
Creative Kitchen, and there was also a small ceremonial cake. Dave and
began by expressing appreciation to the audience, to their parents who
could not be present, and to each of their children. The cake was
cut, pictures taken, and then more dancing until the send-off of the Bride and Groom.
